Supreme Court to rule on birthright citizenship Tuesday

The Supreme Court will announce its decision on birthright citizenship Tuesday. Chief Justice John Roberts made the announcement at the end of Monday's session.
The case challenges President Trump's executive order that would end birthright citizenship for babies born in the U.S. to parents who are in the country illegally or only temporarily. The 14th Amendment says anyone born in the U.S. and "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" is automatically a citizen. The Trump administration argues that "jurisdiction" language doesn't cover children of undocumented immigrants, while challengers say the amendment has guaranteed citizenship to nearly everyone born on U.S. soil for more than 150 years.
Roberts also announced the court will rule Tuesday on a case challenging bans on transgender athletes in school sports.
