U.S. and Iran Reportedly Pause Strikes Amid Ongoing Nuclear Talks

Tensions between the United States and Iran appeared to ease slightly over the weekend as multiple news outlets reported a temporary pause in strikes while diplomatic talks continue.

According to reporting from NBC News and other outlets, communication channels have been established between the two sides as negotiations move forward. President Donald Trump said Iran requested a meeting that is expected to take place in Doha, Qatar, as early as tomorrow, though that has not been independently confirmed by Iranian officials.

The discussions come after several days of escalating military exchanges, including U.S. strikes on Iranian military targets and retaliatory actions involving regional allies. Iran had previously launched strikes in Bahrain and Kuwait, while U.S. forces responded following attacks in the Strait of Hormuz.

Vice President JD Vance described the situation as fluid, saying ceasefire efforts can be “messy,” but reiterated the administration’s position that Iran’s nuclear capabilities have been significantly weakened.

While some media outlets have reported a pause in fighting, Iranian officials have not publicly confirmed any formal agreement.

On Capitol Hill, reaction remains mixed, with Republican lawmakers largely supportive of the administration’s approach while some express concerns about trust and long-term stability.

Talks are expected to continue in the coming days as both sides weigh next steps toward a potential broader agreement.
