Firebirds Assistant Stu Bickel Named Iowa Wild Head Coach; Kraken Re-Sign Avon and Roed
In a major career milestone, former Coachella Valley Firebirds assistant coach Stu Bickel is moving on to receive his very first opportunity as a professional head coach. The Iowa Wild, the primary American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, officially announced the hiring of Bickel to lead their bench.
An original member of the Firebirds' inaugural coaching staff, Bickel spent his tenure in the desert strengthening the team's defensive structure and penalty kill units. Under his tactical guidance, several notable players saw development:
Ryker Evans most notably grew into an everyday NHL player.
Gustav Olofsson and Cale Fleury both reaped the benefits of earning NHL contracts under Bickel's systems.
Following the departure, the Firebirds announced that the search for a new assistant coach will begin immediately to fill the vacancy on the bench.
Kraken Secure Roed and Avon to One-Year Deals
In corresponding player personnel news, the parent-club Seattle Kraken announced that they have signed forwards Lleyton Roed and JR Avon to one-year, two-way contract extensions to continue their professional journeys within the organization. Both players served as critical components to the Firebirds' deep run this past season.
Roed put up an impressive stat line, recording 11 goals and 27 assists across 65 regular-season games. Avon managed a highly productive campaign despite a shortened season while successfully battling back from a tough ankle injury, notch-ing 10 goals and 14 assists in 45 games. Avon's most memorable moment of the year came in the Calder Cup playoffs, where he netted a dramatic double-overtime game-winning goal over Ontario.
Additionally, sports anchor Tim O'Brien reports that the Kraken have extended official qualifying offers to retain the rights of prospects Jacob Melanson, Ville Ottavainen, and Victor Ostman.
Agua Caliente Entertainment Report: 'Minions and Monsters'
Shifting from the ice to the silver screen, the Agua Caliente Entertainment Report highlights the highly anticipated theatrical return of Illumination's beloved yellow sidekicks. The new feature film, Minions and Monsters, is scheduled to hit movie theaters tomorrow.
In this latest cinematic installment, the Minions break into show business and set out to direct their very own monster movie. The plot follows the chaotic aftermath when the monster they cast unexpectedly turns against both the Minions and the wider world, forcing the creatures to try and correct their mistake.
Entertainment analysts attribute the massive global success of the multi-billion-dollar franchise to its profound, transcending language element. The films successfully unify global audiences through joyful, cute, and completely insane creatures whose expressive dialogue is easily understood despite not being an official spoken tongue.
