Health Experts Warn of Dehydration Risks for Those on GLP-1 Weight Loss Medications

A new health concern is emerging as temperatures continue to rise. Health experts are saying people taking GLP-1 weight loss medications are dealing with risks of dehydration. With more people expected to be taking those medications, medical professionals are emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated, limiting time in the sun, and watching for signs of heat-related illness.

Ivana Pozzi, a nurse practitioner, says people taking GLP-1 medications should be especially mindful of their water intake. Water intake is extremely important—at least 64 ounces or more a day is super, super key to any weight loss journey. And then on top of that, in the summertime, we want you to be closer to 80 ounces. If we don't have adequate hydration, we can actually become sick and have a heat stroke.

Hosey also emphasized that everyone should take a break from the sun, wear long sleeves to keep yourself cool, and add more electrolytes to your daily liquid intake.
