Illinois Nine-Year-Old Inspires Patriotic "Flag Walk" for America's 250th Celebration

An Illinois nine-year-old is proving that you are never too young to make a difference. Inspired by the upcoming America 250 celebration, he and his brother have rallied neighbors to transform their neighborhood sidewalk into a patriotic flag walk.

Nine-year-old Declan and his brother Jack wanted to do something special to celebrate the Fourth of July and the nation's 250th anniversary. When they finished decorating their own front yard, their next-door neighbor stopped by to say thank you, noting that the display reminded him of the celebrations held on military bases.

The neighbor, Gerald Moore, served in the Marine Corps. Due to health struggles, Moore was unable to put up flags himself this year, despite wanting to honor the country's landmark anniversary. Upon learning this, Declan, who is a fourth grader, went to work the next day and surprised Moore by setting up the exact same flag display across his yard.

The innocent spirit of patriotism quickly proved contagious. Other neighbors soon stopped by to participate, extending the display to the lawns next door and across the street. The entire block eventually joined in to help decorate, coming together to show their patriotic support.
