Reggae, Blink 182 and a TV Trivia Streak on the Line: Today's Hashtag Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz
Wednesday, July 1, 2026 is packed with holidays worth celebrating, and weatherman Jerry Steffen brought a couple of TV themed trivia questions to test the newsroom, and you, at home.
The day kicks off with International Reggae Day, a celebration founded in Jamaica in 1994 to honor the rich musical genre that developed on the island in the 1960s. Dust off your Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, UB40 and Sean Paul for this one.
It's also International Blink 182 Day, marking the anniversary of the alt punk rock band that got its start in San Diego County back in 1992. The date lines up perfectly, since July 1st is the 182nd day of the year. Fun fact, the band was originally just called Blink, but had to add the 182 after their label pushed them to change the name.
Rounding out the holidays, July 1st is also National Television Heritage Day, a day to honor the cultural and technological milestones of television. That theme carried right into the pop quiz, with two TV related questions putting the newsroom's trivia streak to the test.
Think you know more than the crew? Here are the questions. Watch the attached video to see who got it right and find out the answers for yourself.
1) Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles was the very first music video played on MTV when the channel launched on April 1, 1981. What was the second video played that same day?
A) Burning Down the House, Talking Heads
B) The Flame, Cheap Trick
C) You Better Run, Pat Benatar
2) The very first Super Bowl aired simultaneously on two networks on January 15, 1967, since CBS held the NFL's broadcast rights while the AFL's belonged to NBC. The Green Bay Packers won that day in LA, but who did they beat?
A) Buffalo Bills
B) Kansas City Chiefs
C) New York Jets
