Desert Hot Springs Man in Child Exploitation Case Back in Court for Bail Hearing

A Desert Hot Springs man charged in a child exploitation case is set to appear in court today seeking a reduction in bail.

Ian Scott Whitney, 35, was arrested on June 16 following an investigation by the Desert Hot Springs Police Department and the Riverside County Child Exploitation Team.

Prosecutors allege Whitney possessed more than 600 images and videos of child sexual abuse material and used online platforms in an attempt to arrange meetings with minors. He faces multiple charges, including possession of illegal materials involving children, arranging to meet a minor for illicit purposes, and contacting a minor with intent to commit specific offenses.

Whitney has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He remains in custody at the Smith Correctional Facility without bail as the case proceeds through the court system.

He is expected back in court today as the judge considers the request to modify his bail status.
