Fatal Parking Spot Dispute at Florida Walmart Leaves One Dead as Shooter Claims Self-Defense
NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A dispute over a parking space at a local Walmart has turned deadly, leaving a community shaken and prosecutors weighing potential criminal charges.
The incident, which took place in North Lauderdale, Florida, resulted in the death of 62-year-old Bart DiGuglielmo. At this time, the woman who shot him has not been charged with any crime, as authorities review the evidence surrounding her claims of self-defense.
Crucial moments of the violent encounter were captured on video by a camera on a nearby Tesla. The footage shows DiGuglielmo and the woman engaged in a verbal argument for a little more than a minute. At one point during the dispute, DiGuglielmo is seen following the woman around an SUV. Detectives state that she drew a firearm and shot him moments later.
Additional video recorded by a bystander's cell phone captured audio from the scene, where the woman appears to yell "walk away" immediately before pulling the trigger.
A responding deputy arrived shortly after the gunfire and placed the woman in handcuffs. Witnesses reported a chaotic scene in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
"I did hear a woman screaming and crying," one witness recalled. "She was saying something, but it was incoherent to me what she was saying."
DiGuglielmo was still alive when emergency crews responded to the parking lot, but he later succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
Detectives confirmed that the woman explicitly told them she acted in self-defense. Local station WTVJ reached out to DiGuglielmo's family for comment, but they did not respond.
Homicide detectives are finalizing their investigation and will present their findings to the State Attorney's Office, which will make the final determination on whether the woman will face criminal charges for the fatal shooting.
