Report claims "America 250" donations were secretly redirected to Trump-backed group

A new interim report claims that donations meant for the bipartisan "America 250" nonprofit were redirected to the Trump-backed "Freedom 250" initiative, without donors knowing their money was moving.

The report comes from Democratic staff on the House Natural Resources Committee. Investigators say that if the allegations are proven true, they could amount to wire fraud and charitable solicitation fraud. The report doesn't say how much money was allegedly diverted, or whether any was diverted at all.

"Freedom 250" operates as a subsidiary of the National Park Foundation. In a letter to committee Democrats, the foundation said most of "Freedom 250's" operating funds actually come from Congress, not private donors.

The National Park Foundation, "Freedom 250," "America 250" and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
