Record Fourth of July Travel Expected as AAA Urges Drivers to Prepare Before Hitting the Road

A record number of Americans are expected to travel during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, and auto experts say a few minutes of vehicle maintenance before leaving home could save drivers time, money and frustration.

According to AAA, more than 72 million people are expected to travel around Independence Day, with the vast majority choosing to drive to their destinations despite higher gas prices.

With more vehicles on the road, travel experts are encouraging drivers to inspect their cars before heading out. During last year's Fourth of July holiday, AAA responded to more than 687,000 roadside assistance calls nationwide.

Experts recommend packing emergency supplies, including drinking water, snacks, a first aid kit, a flashlight with extra batteries, jumper cables and basic automotive tools in case the unexpected happens.

At Mountain View Tire, General Manager James says many customers are stopping by for pre-trip inspections before beginning their holiday travels. He recommends checking tire tread and tire pressure, inspecting coolant levels and making sure the vehicle's battery is in good condition before taking a long drive.

Routine maintenance, including checking the coolant reservoir and ensuring tires are properly inflated, can help reduce the risk of breakdowns during periods of heavy holiday traffic.

AAA says taking a few extra minutes to prepare your vehicle before hitting the road can help keep your family safe and ensure your Fourth of July getaway stays on schedule.
