Shadow Hills Standout Commits to Penn State as Girls Flag Football Continues to Grow

Girls flag football continues to gain momentum across the country, and one Shadow Hills High School athlete is showing just how many opportunities the sport can create.

Kailyn Anderson, a defensive back for the Shadow Hills girls flag football team, has committed to Penn State University, where she will continue her flag football career while pursuing her college education.

Anderson says the sport has become an important part of her life, helping her stay focused and providing an outlet during difficult days. Her success on the field earned her multiple scholarship offers, including opportunities from Division I and Division II programs. She ultimately chose Penn State, her dream school, where she will compete on the university's girls flag football team.

She says the growth of girls flag football is opening doors for young women by creating new opportunities to earn scholarships and continue playing at the collegiate level.

Shadow Hills head coach Keith Rouzan believes the sport is only beginning its rise. He says many current high school players are discovering flag football for the first time and predicts participation will continue to increase as younger athletes begin playing at earlier ages.

Flag football has become one of the fastest-growing girls sports in the nation, with more schools adding programs and colleges expanding scholarship opportunities.

For Anderson, the journey from the Coachella Valley to Penn State represents more than a personal achievement—it reflects the bright future of a sport that continues to create new pathways for female student-athletes.
