850,000 Fireworks Cap Off America's 250th Birthday Celebration in Washington
America's 250th birthday celebration ended with a spectacular fireworks display over the nation's capital Saturday night.
The grand finale to the Salute to America 250 event in Washington, D.C., featured approximately 850,000 fireworks, creating one of the largest Independence Day displays ever presented in the United States.
The celebration drew thousands of spectators to the National Mall for an evening of patriotic festivities honoring the nation's semiquincentennial. The fireworks illuminated the Washington skyline, capping off a day filled with ceremonies, musical performances and tributes to America's history.
The massive display served as the centerpiece of the nation's official 250th birthday celebration, bringing together visitors from across the country to commemorate the historic milestone.
Officials described the fireworks show as a fitting finale to a day honoring the nation's founding and 250 years of American history.

Caltrans crews are working on a $4.2 million emergency repair project near North Shore after flooding and washouts damaged the roadway along the Salton Sea.
