DAP Health Encourages Testing, Vaccination, and Awareness for World Hepatitis Day

World Hepatitis Day on July 28 is an opportunity to raise awareness about viral hepatitis and the serious health consequences these infections can cause when left untreated.

Hepatitis B and C are among the most significant forms of viral hepatitis because they can become chronic infections that damage the liver over time. Untreated infections may lead to cirrhosis, liver failure, liver cancer, and death.

One of the greatest challenges in combating hepatitis is that many people experience few or no symptoms during the early stages of infection. As a result, individuals may unknowingly live with hepatitis for decades before receiving a diagnosis.

Fortunately, hepatitis B is preventable through vaccination, and hepatitis C can now be cured with highly effective medications.

DAP Health encourages community members to learn their hepatitis status through screening, discuss vaccination with their health care providers, and seek treatment when appropriate.
