Seaplane makes emergency landing in New York City’s East River, all passengers rescued

A small seaplane made an emergency landing Sunday in New York City’s East River near Manhattan, prompting a swift water rescue response from first responders.

Authorities say the aircraft came down near the East 23rd Street seaplane terminal area, quickly drawing response crews from the FDNY and NYPD.

All passengers on board were safely rescued from the water. Officials reported that some passengers suffered minor injuries, but no fatalities were confirmed.

Video of the incident showed the aircraft striking the water and coming to rest partially submerged before rescue teams arrived and began evacuations.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident, including what caused the aircraft to make the emergency landing.

The seaplane was operating a route between the Hamptons and Manhattan when it encountered trouble during its approach, according to preliminary reports.

Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation continues.
