Palm Springs Fire Burns Through Property, Knocks Out Power

Cal Fire crews and the Palm Springs Fire Department responded to a debris fire that tore through a property in an unincorporated area in Palm Springs - leaving a motorhome, multiple vehicles, and several sea cargo boxes completely destroyed.

The fire broke out around 2 p.m. on the 59900 block of Calle de Las Flores and Oreana Way on a property filled with debris - prompting more than 30 firefighters to arrive at the scene. The code enforcement team was also out on the scene due to the mixed material on the property.

The Red Cross is currently assisting at least 5 families impacted by the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Although firefighters contained the blaze rapidly and prevented structural damage to other properties, nine nearby homes were left without power. Southern California Edison crews on the scene confirmed that the power should be restored by Wednesday morning at 6 a.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but neighbors we spoke to say amount of debris piled on the property has been a longtime concern for their safety.

Fire officials remind the public to keep the area around your home clean and free of debris and dry brush to prevent fires during these extreme temperatures.
