Report: Trump Energy Policies Could Raise Power Bills for Years to Come

A new analysis says President Trump's energy policies could leave Americans paying more for power well into the next decade.

The report comes from Energy Innovation, a clean energy think tank, and estimates the administration's policies will add more than half a trillion dollars in combined household energy costs by 2040. The group projects the average household could pay about $460 more a year by 2035.

The findings land as energy affordability becomes a bigger issue heading into this year's midterm elections.

The analysis points to a few key drivers behind the higher costs it's projecting: less administration support for renewable energy, fewer incentives for electric vehicles, and cuts to consumer tax credits that previously helped offset energy expenses.

The White House disputes the findings, calling the report partisan. Officials argue the administration's policies will boost domestic energy production and ultimately bring costs down.
