Heat Advisories Extended Across Southern California as Extreme Temperatures Continue

Heat advisories have been extended across much of Southern California as extreme temperatures are expected to continue through the rest of the week and into the weekend.

The National Weather Service says a high-pressure system moving closer to the region is pushing temperatures into the triple digits in some inland communities.

Temperatures are expected to peak Thursday, with areas including Santa Clarita, San Bernardino and Hemet forecast to reach above 100 degrees.

A heat advisory remains in effect through Tuesday morning for several areas, including Burbank, Woodland Hills, Wrightwood, Van Nuys and Pasadena, where temperatures could reach up to 105 degrees.

The heat is expected to briefly ease over the weekend before another round of extreme temperatures arrives early next week. Weather officials say an extreme heat watch could bring temperatures as high as 112 degrees in some areas.

Officials are warning residents about the dangers of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Symptoms can include heavy sweating, dizziness, confusion, nausea and clammy skin.

People are reminded to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day, and never leave children or pets unattended in hot vehicles.
