Riverside County Sees Sharp Rise in E-Bike Crashes, Health Officials Warn
Riverside University Health System is raising concerns about a sharp increase in e-bike crashes across Riverside County.
Health officials say 958 e-bike crashes were reported last year, doubling the total from 2024 and more than quadrupling the number reported in 2023. So far this year, more than 400 e-bike collisions have already been recorded.
According to RUHS, riders between the ages of 10 and 24 are at the greatest risk of being involved in a crash.
Doctors say the injuries are often more severe than those seen in traditional bicycle accidents because e-bikes can travel at much higher speeds. Emergency departments are reporting an increase in head injuries, broken bones, collapsed lungs, and serious cuts resulting from these crashes.
RUHS is urging riders to wear properly fitted helmets, obey traffic laws, stay alert, and reduce their speed to help prevent serious injuries.
