How to Stop Instagram AI From Using Your Photos
Instagram users are being urged to review their privacy settings after Meta introduced a new artificial intelligence feature that allows public images to be used for AI-generated content.
The feature, called "Muse Image," enables users to create AI-generated images using publicly available Instagram photos. Privacy advocates say many users may not realize their public posts can be used in this way.
Critics argue the feature raises concerns about consent and personal privacy, particularly because other users can generate AI content based on someone's likeness.
"If you have a public account and want to protect your images, you'll need to opt out," experts say.
To disable the feature:
Open your Instagram profile.
Tap the three-line menu.
Select "Sharing and Re-use."
Tap "Allow People to Use Your Content With AI Features."
Toggle the setting to "Off."
Privacy advocates recommend reviewing account settings regularly and limiting access to personal content if you don't want your images used by AI tools.
Meta has not indicated whether the feature will be enabled by default for all public accounts, but experts encourage users to check their settings and understand how their content may be used.
