Trump Says Iran Ceasefire Is Over as U.S. Agrees to New Talks

President Donald Trump announced Friday that Iran has requested new talks with the United States, while also declaring the ceasefire between the two countries is over following renewed violence in the region.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Iran had asked to continue discussions and that the United States agreed to do so. However, he added that the ceasefire had ended.

The announcement follows reports of renewed attacks involving commercial tankers and military activity across the Middle East. According to NBC News, a U.S. official said there were no new U.S. strikes overnight, although American forces have been intercepting Iranian missiles and drones aimed at neighboring countries.

State media in Iran also reported explosions across the country, while millions of mourners gathered for the funeral of Iran's former supreme leader, who was killed earlier this year. During the funeral, some attendees called for retaliation against the United States and President Trump.

Speaking this week, Trump acknowledged ongoing threats against him, saying he remains a target of the Iranian government.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has removed all three remaining members of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. A White House official confirmed the commissioners will be replaced. The bipartisan commission helps distribute federal election funding and provides guidance to state and local election officials.

The changes have drawn criticism from some election officials, including Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, who expressed concern about the impact on election administration.

Separately, a major housing package aimed at improving housing affordability is expected to become law at midnight. Although President Trump said he would not sign the legislation unless Congress also passes additional election-related legislation, White House officials say the administration will not block the measure from taking effect automatically.
