Arrest Made in Brutal Assault of 72-Year-Old Uber Driver in Indio

An arrest has been made in the brutal assault of a 72-year-old Uber driver in Indio that left the victim with serious injuries.

The Indio Police Department announced that 57-year-old Thomas David Williams was arrested Thursday night following an investigation by the department's Major Crimes Unit.

According to investigators, the assault happened on June 21 after an argument over transporting a bicycle escalated into a violent attack. Police say the 72-year-old Uber driver suffered severe injuries, including facial and orbital fractures, a concussion, and other significant trauma.

The victim's injuries were so serious that he was hospitalized overnight for treatment.

Williams was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of elderly abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and personally inflicting great bodily injury.
