22-Year-Old Indio Man Killed in Morning Rollover Crash

A 22-year-old man was killed and another person injured in a rollover crash Monday morning in Indio.

The collision happened around 8:15 a.m. on Fred Waring Drive near Burr Street.

Police say a blue Toyota Tundra was traveling westbound on Fred Waring Drive when the driver apparently lost control, causing the truck to overturn.

Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Authorities identified the victim as Jason Chavez of Indio, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second occupant was transported to a local hospital with injuries.

Investigators say a second vehicle struck debris from the collision but was not directly involved in the rollover.

The Indio Police Department closed westbound Fred Waring Drive between Madison Street and Burr Street for several hours while crews investigated the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
