Palm Springs Animal Shelter Pauses Cat and Kitten Intake After Illness Outbreak

The Palm Springs Animal Shelter has temporarily halted cat and kitten intake following an illness outbreak at the facility.

Shelter officials say the intake pause will remain in effect through July 27 as staff focus on treating affected kittens and performing a thorough cleaning and sanitization of the shelter.

According to the shelter, the temporary closure is a precautionary measure designed to help contain the illness and prevent it from spreading to additional animals.

During the intake suspension, the shelter will not accept new cats or kittens. Officials say the decision allows staff to concentrate their efforts on the animals currently in their care while maintaining a safe and healthy environment.

Shelter leaders are asking the public for patience and understanding as they work to resolve the outbreak and resume normal operations.

The shelter plans to reopen cat and kitten intake once veterinary staff determine it is safe to do so, with the current reopening date scheduled for July 27, barring any changes in conditions.
