CVRep announces summer cabaret lineup and upcoming theater season

CVRep Executive Artistic Director Adam Karsten is highlighting a summer filled with music, theater, and community engagement as the organization continues its Summer Cabaret Series and prepares for its next season.

The cabaret series is currently halfway complete and features a lineup of talented performers, including Glenn Rosenblum with Alex Correy, Sarah Yanovaty performing a tribute to Judy Garland, Nick and Desi with a Broadway-to-Hollywood performance, Mary Van Arsdale celebrating the Barbara Cook songbook, and Davis Gaines, known for his more than 2,000 performances as The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera.

Karsten said the series gives audiences the opportunity to experience intimate performances from talented artists in the Coachella Valley.

CVRep is also preparing for an ambitious upcoming season featuring a mix of comedy, drama, and musical theater.

The season will open with Tracy Letts’ The Minutes, a dark satire with themes that Karsten says remain relevant today. The production will be followed by Around the World in 80 Days, adapted by Mark Brown, featuring six actors portraying more than 40 characters in a fast-paced theatrical experience similar in style to The 39 Steps.

The season will continue with Million Dollar Quartet, which tells the true story of a legendary recording session featuring Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash. The production will feature many of the artists’ most famous songs.

CVRep will close the season with the iconic musical Les Misérables.

Beyond performances, CVRep continues to expand its educational programs through its conservatory, offering classes in singing, acting, scene study, playwriting, and improv.

The theater also continues its youth outreach efforts through the Bully Plays program, which brings high school students into the theater for professionally produced performances addressing difficult topics. Students then participate in discussions led by professionals following the shows.

Karsten said many students attending the program are experiencing live theater for the first time, which is why CVRep brings them to the theater and covers transportation costs.
