Probation Agent Suspected of Relations with Juvenile Inmate

RIVERSIDE (CNS) - A Riverside County probation officer suspected of
intimacy with a juvenile inmate and accessing government data illegally was out
of custody today.

Nancy Veronica Salcedo, 43, of Indio, was arrested and booked into the
Robert Presley Jail Sunday on suspicion of inappropriate contact with a
minor and unauthorized use of government computers. Salcedo posted an
unspecified bond and was let out of the downtown Riverside jail in the predawn
hours Monday.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Peters said undisclosed parties from the Department
of Probation contacted the Special Victims Unit Thursday, alerting them to
possible illicit activity involving the suspect and the boy, apparently at
Riverside Juvenile Hall.

The youth's identity was not released.

Peters said further investigation confirmed alleged inappropriate
contact, culminating in a search warrant being served at Salcedo's residence on
Bismark Court, where she was taken into custody without incident Sunday
evening.

``This is an ongoing investigation, and no other details are available
at this time,'' the sergeant said.

There was no word regarding how long the agent and juvenile had been
in contact, or whether she was assigned to his case.

It was also unclear whether Salcedo had been placed on administrative
leave.

Her length of employment with the county additionally was not disclosed.

Investigators are trying to determine whether Salcedo may have had
inappropriate contact with other teenagers.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Special Victims Unit at
951-955-1700.
