An NBC Palm Springs Tropical Update on Wednesday, July 15, 2026!

Tropical Storm Elida is currently located several hundred miles SSW of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Elida is spinning over very warm sea surface temperatures with quite a bit of moisture to feed on, both which will aid in its strengthening. But, Northerly upper-level wind shear will temper this progress.

This system is moving to the West, but a turn to the NW around the SW perimeter of an upper-level high is expected to occur over the next couple of days.

It looks like Elida will become the very first Hurricane of the 2026 NE Pacific Hurricane Season when it will most likely achieve Cat-1 status by Friday.

After that, this system will move over cooler waters which will play a major role in its weakening and demise early next week.
