Hot Dog! It’s Time For Another Hashtag Holiday Calendar Pop Quiz
Weatherman Jerry Steffen kept things light on this morning's Hashtag Holiday Calendar segment, brought to you by One Coachella Valley, digging into the day's quirkiest observances before launching into a horse themed Pop Quiz that put the crew's knowledge to the test.
First up, the hot dog talk. While all of July is technically National Hot Dog Month, today gets its own individual shoutout as National Hot Dog Day, a true summertime staple across America. Whether you're a mustard purist or you like to mix your condiments, today is the day to indulge, and keep an eye out for deals around town, since some spots are known to run hot dog specials for the occasion.
Dessert lovers aren't left out either. National Tapioca Pudding Day also falls on July 15, celebrating the creamy, sweet treat made from cassava root starch, milk, and sugar. It's a classic American dessert that pairs nicely after a hot dog lunch.
Rounding out the day is I Love Horses Day, a celebration of one of the most magnificent creatures around, and the inspiration behind today's Pop Quiz. Jerry put the horse theme to work with two questions blending music trivia and weather science, and now it's your turn to see how you'd do.
Watch the video above and test your knowledge with these two questions before the answers are revealed on air.
1) If you were listening to the radio in the late 80s, you'd likely recognize these lyrics: "She's a good girl, loves her mama, loves Jesus and America too. She's a good girl, crazy about Elvis, loves horses, and her boyfriend too." What is the name of this top 10 Tom Petty tune from 1989?
A) American Girl
B) Free Fallin'
C) I Won't Back Down
2) The horse latitudes are large ridges of high pressure on Earth, typically marked by sunny skies, calm winds, and very little precipitation. At what degrees latitude would you generally find the horse latitudes on a world map?
A) Zero degrees
B) 30 degrees
C) 90 degrees
Think you know your Tom Petty and your weather patterns? Watch the full segment above to see if you got them right, and catch Jerry Steffen's Hashtag Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz every morning for more fun facts and friendly competition.
