Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool drained again for repairs

The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C., has been drained again as crews begin another round of repairs to its recently installed liner.

The work comes after algae growth appeared in the pool and sections of the new liner began peeling following a multi-million-dollar renovation project.

President Donald Trump blamed the damage on vandals, saying someone cut a 350-foot gash in the liner. A National Park Service official echoed that assessment, and four people have since been arrested in connection with the alleged vandalism.

With the water removed, workers inspected loose sections of the liner in the middle of the pool. Areas where water remained contained debris, bird feathers, sediment, and dead algae, while ducks continued swimming through the shallow water.

Security fencing and portable surveillance cameras remain in place around the Reflecting Pool as repairs continue.
