Education Leaders Discuss Workforce Development at Rancho Mirage Speaker Series
Local education and workforce leaders came together Wednesday for the fourth Rancho Mirage Speaker Series of the season, focusing on the future of the Coachella Valley's workforce.
The panel featured Sheila Thornton of OneFuture Coachella Valley, Oscar Fonseca of California State University, San Bernardino's Palm Desert Campus, and Val Martinez-Garcia of College of the Desert.
The discussion centered on strengthening the region's talent pipeline through collaboration between K-12 schools, colleges, universities and local employers. Panelists emphasized the importance of creating pathways that help students transition from the classroom into successful careers.
Organizers said many of the attendees represented businesses that are currently hiring or expect to hire in the near future. The event gave employers an opportunity to connect directly with education leaders, learn about workforce training programs and explore ways to build stronger partnerships.
Internships and hands-on learning opportunities were also highlighted as key tools for preparing students with the skills employers need.
Following the discussion, attendees participated in a networking session designed to encourage collaboration between educators, business leaders and community organizations.
Organizers say the speaker series continues to foster conversations that support economic growth and workforce development throughout the Coachella Valley.
