Meet Dogust: This Week's Pet of the Week from Animal Samaritans

This 13-week-old terrier mix is looking for a family to call her own, and she already has a fitting name to match the season. Valerie Kattz with Animal Samaritans introduced viewers to Dogust on this week's Pet of the Week segment, and she says the puppy has been staying with her the past few days, giving her plenty of time to get to know her personality.

Dogust has a scruffy little coat that forms a small mohawk on top of her head, and Kattz says she is already picking up quickly on potty training. She gets along well with other dogs, though she is just as capable of being a happy only pet in a new home.

Dogust gets her name from Animal Samaritans' 6th Annual Dogust Birthday Bash and Bingo, since Dogust is considered the official birthday month for shelter dogs. The event runs from 11am to 2pm on Saturday, August 29th in the Sky Ballroom at The Rowan Palm Springs. Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance, since they will not be sold at the door. Ticket holders get wine, lunch, a round of Bingo hosted by Miss Burna, and the opportunity to meet adoptable dogs and puppies, including Dogust herself. The event's goal is to raise $10,000 for Animal Samaritans' life saving programs, and organizers note that donations help the shelter's cats as well as its dogs. 

No personal pets are allowed at the event, though service animals are welcome. 

Other adoptable pets highlighted this week include Bruno, a pug, Teethy, a soft-coated small dog, and Javita, a chocolate lab mix with short legs. All are currently available at the Animal Samaritans shelter.
