Palm Springs International Film Society Announces Two Awards Honoring Harold Matzner

The Palm Springs International Film Society is honoring the legacy of one of its most influential leaders with the creation of two new awards celebrating the life and contributions of longtime philanthropist and former festival chairman Harold Matzner, who passed away last year.

The first, the Harold Matzner Impact Award, is a new $25,000 grant designed to help filmmakers complete projects focused on important social issues. Eligible films may address topics including civil and human rights, immigration and other issues that inspire meaningful public conversation.

The organization also announced the Harold Matzner Distinguished Achievement Award, which will recognize individuals whose careers have made a lasting impact on the global film industry through artistic excellence and significant contributions to cinema.

Both awards will be presented during the Palm Springs Honors event on Oct. 19 in Los Angeles, where the inaugural recipients will be recognized while celebrating Matzner's enduring legacy of philanthropy and support for the arts.

The recipient of the Harold Matzner Impact Award will also be honored during the Palm Springs International Film Awards in January, further highlighting the importance of storytelling that creates positive social change.

Film Society leaders say the new awards reflect Matzner's lifelong commitment to supporting filmmakers, advancing the arts and strengthening the Palm Springs International Film Festival's global reputation.
