Desert Empire Surf Representing the Coachella Valley on the International Stage in Northern Ireland

One of the Coachella Valley's top youth soccer clubs is taking its talents overseas.

The Desert Empire Surf Girls 2010 team, led by head coach Hugo Chaparro, is representing the Coachella Valley in the prestigious SuperCupNI in Northern Ireland, one of the world's premier international youth soccer tournaments. The event features elite academy teams from across Europe and around the globe, giving young players an opportunity to compete against some of the best youth talent in the sport.

For many of the players, the trip marks the first opportunity to compete internationally and the chance to measure themselves against world-renowned clubs.

"This is an incredible opportunity for our players to grow—not only as soccer players but as young adults," Chaparro said before the team's departure. "They're going to experience a different style of soccer, different cultures, and see firsthand what it takes to compete at the highest level."

Chaparro, who has more than a decade of coaching experience and has led Desert Empire Surf for several years, has built a program centered on technical development, possession-based soccer, and creating a positive team culture. His emphasis on discipline, teamwork, and player development has helped elevate the club into one of Southern California's respected youth programs.

The SuperCupNI has long been regarded as one of the most prestigious youth tournaments in the world. Over the years, future international stars such as Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford, Paul Scholes, Joe Cole, and Michael Carrick have competed in the event before launching professional careers.

Desert Empire Surf's schedule includes a challenging opening match against Liverpool's academy, with every game providing invaluable experience against elite international competition.

While results will certainly matter, Chaparro believes the greatest victory will be the lessons his players bring home.

"The biggest takeaway is seeing how the best academies prepare and compete every single day," Chaparro said. "Our girls will come back better players because of this experience."
