McDonald's Reports 2.5% Quarterly Sales Growth After Minecraft Movie Campaign
McDonald's reported quarterly sales growth of 2.5%, ending a two-quarter slump that the fast-food chain attributed partly to its marketing partnership with "A Minecraft Movie."
The campaign, which McDonald's described as the largest in company history, included movie-themed Happy Meal toys launched in March and a tie-in adult meal option. The film has generated nearly $1 billion in worldwide box office revenue.
The restaurant chain also credited its new crispy chicken strips for contributing to the improved quarterly performance. McDonald's had experienced declining sales in the previous two financial quarters before the Minecraft partnership.
The company announced plans to introduce additional menu items in the coming weeks as it seeks to build on the recent sales momentum.
