Ford to Move World Headquarters for First Time in Seven Decades
Ford Motor Company will relocate its global headquarters for the first time in 70 years when its new 2.1-million-square-foot campus formally opens in November. Despite the historic nature of the move, Ford is staying close to home—the new facility sits just three miles from its current Dearborn, Michigan location.
The new facility will house approximately 14,000 employees within a 15-minute walking distance of the main building, consolidating Ford's workforce in a more compact layout than its current sprawling campus. The headquarters will span multiple buildings designed to accommodate the company's evolving workplace needs.
New Campus Features
The modern complex includes six dedicated design studios for vehicle development, a 160,000-square-foot food hall, wellness facilities, and designated mothers' spaces for nursing employees. More than 300 technology-enabled meeting rooms will support the company's hybrid work model and global collaboration needs.
Departure from Historic Location
Ford's current headquarters, known colloquially as "The Glass House," has served as the company's nerve center since opening in 1956. At the time of its construction, Ford described the building as one of the nation's largest office structures occupied by a single company, reflecting the automaker's prominence during the height of American manufacturing.
Short-Distance Relocation
The new campus sits approximately three miles from the current Dearborn location, keeping Ford rooted in the Detroit metropolitan area where it was founded in 1903. The short move allows the company to maintain its deep ties to the region while modernizing its operations in a purpose-built facility.
