Electronic Arts Going Private in $55 Billion Deal Backed by Saudis and Jared Kushner’s Firm
Electronic Arts, one of the world’s most prominent video game companies, is going private in a $55 billion deal funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Jared Kushner’s investment firm, Affinity Partners.
The deal, announced Monday, also includes investment firm Silver Lake. Together, the consortium will pay shareholders $210 per share, representing a 25% premium over EA’s closing stock price on Friday. Shares of EA rose about 5% in early trading following the announcement. The transaction marks the largest buyout on record in the gaming industry.
EA CEO Andrew Wilson praised the company’s track record in a press release, highlighting its “extraordinary experiences for hundreds of millions of fans” and its iconic game franchises. Kushner added that he has long admired EA’s ability to create lasting entertainment, noting his personal connection to the company’s games, which he now shares with his children.
The buyout is expected to close in the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, pending regulatory approval. EA, founded in 1982, is known for blockbuster titles including Madden NFL, The Sims, and Battlefield. Its highly anticipated Battlefield 6 is currently in development.
The acquisition comes after a turbulent period for the gaming industry. EA joined other companies in cutting staff last year, reducing its workforce by 5% following the post-pandemic slowdown in consumer gaming habits.
If approved, the deal would reshape EA’s future, allowing it to operate as a private company while continuing to develop some of the industry’s most iconic franchises.
