CUPERTINO, Calif. — In a comprehensive update to its leadership structure, Apple announced on Monday that Tim Cook will step down as CEO, paving the way for a new generation of executives to lead the $4 trillion company. John Ternus, currently the Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, has been named the incoming CEO, with his appointment effective September 1, 2026.

John Ternus: A 25-year Apple veteran, Ternus is described by colleagues as having the "soul of an innovator." Having joined the company in 2001, he previously led the engineering teams behind the iPhone, Mac, and the recently launched MacBook Neo.
