New Year Brings Major Changes to California Driving and Employment Laws
California drivers and job seekers should prepare for notable changes as new laws take effect in 2025.
Assembly Bill 413, known as the "Daylighting Law," prohibits parking within 20 feet of any crosswalk, whether marked or unmarked. This measure aims to enhance pedestrian visibility and safety. Cities across the state are identifying affected areas, with San Francisco already eliminating 14,000 parking spaces to comply.
Senate Bill 1100 addresses employment practices, barring employers from requiring a valid driver’s license unless the job explicitly involves driving. This law seeks to remove barriers for applicants and ensure fair hiring processes.
Senate Bill 1107 revises minimum insurance liability limits. The new requirements double the limit for bodily injury or death per person per accident and triple the coverage for property damage. These changes aim to ensure greater financial protection for victims of crashes.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
