Wildfire Relief Drive at Acrisure Arena
The Coachella Valley is coming together in a big way to aid those affected by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles County. The One Valley Foundation, in partnership with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, is spearheading a relief drive at Acrisure Arena, where locals have been dropping off much-needed supplies since this morning. From blankets and clothing to non-perishable food, baby formula, and chargers for electronics, the response from the community has been overwhelming.
In addition to physical donations, the Firebirds have pledged a generous $10,000 towards wildfire relief efforts, and funds have been further raised through auctions of specialty jerseys and other fundraising events.
The Firebirds aren't alone in this effort, with four other American Hockey League teams in California joining the initiative: the San Jose Barracuda, Bakersfield Condors, San Diego Gulls, and Ontario Reign. Together, they are sending the donations to the Los Angeles Fire Department, which will distribute the supplies where they are most needed.
This drive, which continues tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Acrisure Arena, is a testament to the incredible generosity of the Coachella Valley community. All ticket sales for Thursday’s game will also contribute to the relief effort. With more than 50 cars already delivering supplies today, it's clear that when disaster strikes, the Coachella Valley stands united to help those in need.

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away. CAL FIRE Riverside County Battalion Chief Ryan Lubin says the steep terrain, dry brush and limited access continue to create challenges for mountain communities. With El Niño conditions expected to bring periods of heavy rain, officials say preparing now could help protect homes and communities from the aftermath of wildfire.
