Hughes Fire Forces Evacuations in Northern Los Angeles County
A rapidly spreading brush fire, dubbed the Hughes Fire, has ignited concerns across northern Los Angeles County. The blaze, which started around 10:30 a.m. in the Castaic area, has already scorched over 8,000 acres, according to Cal Fire's latest update.
Thick, dark smoke blankets the hillsides, where dry brush and high winds are fueling the flames. Live footage shows intense conditions as firefighting planes drop retardant to curb the fire's spread. Despite their efforts, the fire’s rapid growth has led to mandatory evacuations in areas near Lake Hughes Road off the 5 Freeway.
Adding to the challenge is a Red Flag Warning currently in effect for parts of Los Angeles County, signaling extreme fire danger due to hot, dry, and windy conditions.
Authorities are urging residents to comply with evacuation orders and remain vigilant as crews work tirelessly to contain the fire. For those in affected areas, safety remains the priority, and further updates will follow as the situation develops.

BREAKING: Human remains believed to be those of 17-year-old T’neya Tovar have been discovered at a second site in the Salton City area, according to the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office. A skull and rib cage were found during a search involving Imperial County investigators and the FBI. Testing is still needed to confirm the remains belong to Tovar. The discovery comes one day after suspect Finebloom pleaded guilty to torture and voluntary manslaughter as part of a plea agreement that could result in a sentence of 13 years to life. Salton city resident Abraham Feinbloom is expected to take a plea deal in the murder case of 17 year old T’Neya Tovar. Under the plea deal obtained by the Imperial County Criminal Courthouse, Feinbloom will plead guilty to one count of torture and voluntary manslaughter. According to court records, he is also expected to assist law enforcement in finding the rest of the victim’s remains.
