Texas Veteran Wayne Banks Honored with Surprise Parade for Spreading Joy
In College Station, Texas, a simple daily gesture by a local veteran has blossomed into a heartwarming community celebration. Wayne Banks, a decorated U.S. Army veteran awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star, has become a familiar figure on Victoria Avenue, where he sits outside Bluebonnet Court Assisted Living, waving to every passerby. Rain or shine, Banks offers a friendly smile and wave, bringing joy to neighbors and strangers alike.
Moved by his consistent kindness, local residents Maikayla and Steven Gifford organized a surprise parade to honor Banks. The event saw participation from police officers, firefighters, motorcyclists, families, and community members, all coming together to express their appreciation. Emergency vehicles, waving neighbors, and honking drivers paraded past Banks, who watched with a smile from his usual spot.
Staff at Bluebonnet Court noted that the tribute resonated beyond Banks himself, serving as a show of support for veterans and seniors in the community. Banks, touched by the unexpected recognition, expressed his gratitude and affirmed his commitment to continue his daily waves.

A high-speed police chase in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, came to a dramatic end when the vehicle plunged into Lake Como. Dashcam video released by police shows the pursuit before the car crashes into the water. Four people inside the vehicle were pulled from the lake with no serious injuries reported.
