Man Charged in Attempted Kidnap of Mayor

A man is facing serious charges after allegedly trying to kidnap the mayor of Memphis.
Police say 25-year-old Trenton Abston was caught on camera trespassing at Mayor Paul Young’s home.
It happened late Sunday night when Abston scaled a wall and approached the front door.
The mayor reportedly saw him on his Ring camera, wearing a hoodie and gloves.
Young called police immediately after hearing a knock.
Officers arrested Abston and searched his vehicle.
Inside, they found a taser, gloves, rope, and duct tape.
Investigators say Abston admitted to looking up the mayor’s address.
He told officers he wanted to confront the mayor about crime in Memphis.
Abston is now charged with attempted kidnapping, stalking, and aggravated criminal trespass.
In response, Mayor Young said the country needs to “do better” and “choose love.”
The investigation is ongoing, and Abston remains in custody.
