Senate Passes Trump’s Sweeping Domestic Policy Bill After Tie-Breaking Vote from VP J.D. Vance
In a dramatic turn on Capitol Hill, the Senate has passed President Donald Trump’s sweeping domestic policy legislation — but only after Vice President J.D. Vance was called in to break a 50-50 tie.
The final vote tally was 54 to 50 against, until Vance stepped in with the tie-breaking vote during a tense, overnight session that lasted more than 24 hours. The high-stakes vote highlights ongoing divisions in Congress over the scope and impact of the legislation, which includes a wide range of tax, spending, and national policy changes.
The bill now moves to the House of Representatives, where it faces an uncertain future. While Republicans hold a narrow three-vote majority, House passage is not guaranteed. Lawmakers will need to move quickly if they hope to meet President Trump’s July 4th deadline for final approval.
With the holiday approaching and pressure mounting, all eyes now shift to the House chamber — where every vote will count.
