President Trump Visits Texas Flood Zone as Search for Missing Continues

President Donald Trump traveled to Kerr County, Texas, Friday to survey the devastation caused by catastrophic flooding along the Guadalupe River.

The president, joined by the First Lady, met with first responders and spent time with families who lost loved ones or have missing relatives. “I’ve never seen anything like this,” Trump said during the visit. “They lost their child, or two children. It’s hard to believe.”

More than 120 people have been confirmed dead, with at least 160 still missing. Search crews, including over 2,000 first responders, are working across six counties. Fredericksburg Fire Chief Lynn Bizzell described the challenges: “We are encountering tremendous debris problems in the river. We have a lot of heavy equipment. We have ground crews going in by hand and searching.”

Questions continue to surface over whether adequate warnings were given as floodwaters rose. NBC affiliate KXAN obtained dispatch audio revealing a Code Red alert request was made at 4:22 a.m. on July 4. It appears at least 90 minutes passed before the alert went out.

Survivors and volunteers are now focused on cleanup and recovery. Danny Wayne Lyons from Restoration of Hope described the emotional toll: “It’s hard when you run across pictures of dad, momma, and kids—Christmas pictures, birthday pictures. It really hurts.”

Memorial services are beginning, including one this evening for an eight-year-old girl swept away by the floodwaters.
