Justice Department Seeks to Release Epstein and Maxwell Grand Jury Exhibits Alongside Transcripts
The Justice Department has told two federal judges it intends to release grand jury exhibits from the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases, in addition to previously discussed transcripts, with redactions to protect victims’ identities and other personal information.
The filing, signed by Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, and Southern District of New York U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, marks the latest move by the Trump administration to address mounting calls for transparency in the so-called Epstein Files.
It remains unclear how much of the material is new or has not already been made public. The administration has faced criticism from both political parties and the public for not fully disclosing the files. Last month, the Justice Department issued an unsigned memo stating no “client list” existed. CNN has reported that President Donald Trump was briefed on the files in May and that his name appeared several times.
Some victims have told the courts they do not oppose the release of the materials but have requested extensive redactions to protect their privacy, warning that the information is being used as “political warfare” by the administration. Maxwell’s attorneys oppose the release, citing her legal interests.
The filing responds to requests from U.S. District Judges Richard Berman and Paul Engelmayer for clarification on whether the DOJ sought to unseal exhibits as well as transcripts. The DOJ says it has begun contacting victims whose names appear in the exhibits but not the transcripts, and is notifying individuals whose names surfaced in grand jury materials not used in Maxwell’s public trial.
The department has asked the judges to delay any decisions on releasing the materials until it has heard back from all victim-related parties next week.
