Homeland Security to Paint Southern Border Wall Black at Trump’s Request
The Department of Homeland Security has announced plans to paint the steel wall along the U.S.-Mexico border black at the direction of President Donald Trump.
DHS Secretary Christy Noem said Tuesday that the president requested the wall be painted in order to make it more difficult to climb, especially during warm weather when the dark surface could become dangerously hot.
Noem did not provide an estimate of how much the painting project will cost. However, the initiative is part of a larger border security package included in the president’s recently passed agenda bill, which allocates $46.5 billion for border barrier system improvements.
The sweeping plan includes completing construction on 700 miles of primary border wall and incorporating advanced security technologies such as cameras and sensors. Officials say the effort is designed to bolster the nation’s border security infrastructure while enhancing enforcement capabilities.
Details on when the painting will begin or how it will be carried out have not yet been released.
