Trump Backs DOJ Sending Epstein Files to House Oversight

President Donald Trump said Friday that he supports the Justice Department sending Jeffrey Epstein files to the House Oversight Committee, signaling openness to a move that has stirred debate on Capitol Hill.

“Innocent people shouldn’t be hurt. But I’m in support of keeping it totally open. I couldn’t care less,” Trump told reporters. “You got a lot of people that it could be mentioned in those files that don’t deserve to be. Because he knew everybody in Palm Beach. I don’t know anything about that.”

The Oversight Committee is expected to begin receiving files from the Justice Department as soon as Friday. Chair James Comer said his panel plans to release the records after review, ensuring victims’ identities and sensitive information are redacted.

Trump said he has instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to cooperate fully, telling DOJ to provide Congress with as much information as possible.

“The whole Epstein thing is a Democrat hoax,” Trump claimed. “So we had the greatest six months, seven months in the history of the presidency, and the Democrats don’t know what to do, so they keep bringing up that stuff.”

Comer emphasized the committee would move quickly to share the files. “This is sensitive information. We want to make sure we don’t do anything to harm or jeopardize any victims that were involved in this, but we’re going to be transparent,” he said.

The release of Epstein-related materials has divided lawmakers in recent weeks. House Speaker Mike Johnson delayed a vote on releasing the files until September, despite mounting calls from Republicans for full transparency.

As the panel begins its review, questions remain about how much of the material will be made public and how soon.
