Powerball Jackpot Climbs to $950 Million, Sixth Largest in History

Americans now have nearly a billion reasons to buy a Powerball ticket this week. The jackpot has climbed to $950 million, making it the sixth largest prize in Powerball history.

The surge comes after no one matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing. The prize has been rolling over since the last jackpot winner on May 31.

If a player wins Saturday night’s drawing, they can choose between 29 yearly payments or a one-time lump sum of about $429 million.

Powerball tickets cost $2 and are available in 45 states, including California, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

With the massive jackpot at stake, long lines are expected at convenience stores and gas stations nationwide as hopeful players try their luck.
