Person of Interest Identified in Assassination of Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk
Federal authorities have released the first images of a man they describe as a person of interest in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was gunned down in Utah earlier this week.
Investigators say surveillance footage tracked the suspect moving onto a campus building, through stairwells and across a rooftop, where they believe he fired into a crowd of roughly 3,000 people gathered to hear Kirk speak. After the attack, the gunman reportedly jumped from the roof and blended into the chaos to escape.
A high-powered rifle believed to be the weapon used in the shooting was discovered near the scene, along with a footwear impression, palm print, and forearm imprints now being analyzed by forensic teams.
Witnesses described the attack as shocking and surreal. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone die in front of me, let alone be murdered,” one attendee told reporters.
Kirk, 31, co-founded the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA and was a vocal ally of former President Donald Trump. Trump said he personally spoke with Kirk’s wife, Erica, offering condolences and pledging that Kirk will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Vice President JD Vance arrived in Utah to be with Kirk’s family, with sources confirming Air Force Two will transport his casket to Arizona.
As the manhunt intensifies, investigators are warning the public to remain vigilant, calling the shooting another alarming sign of the nation’s deepening political divides.
