Trump Files $15 Billion Defamation Lawsuit Against New York Times
President Donald Trump has announced a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times, accusing the newspaper of serving as a "virtual mouthpiece" for the Democratic Party.
The lawsuit follows Trump's threat last week to take legal action against the publication after it ran articles concerning a sexually suggestive note and drawing reportedly given to Jeffrey Epstein for the disgraced financier's 50th birthday in 2003. The materials appear to bear Trump's signature.
Trump and his aides have categorically denied any involvement in creating the note or drawing in question.
In a recent social media post, the president accused The New York Times of publishing false statements about him, his family, and his business operations. However, Trump did not provide specific details about which statements he considers defamatory or elaborate on the nature of his allegations.
