Trump Moves to Designate Antifa as Terrorist Organization After Charlie Kirk Killing
President Donald Trump said Tuesday he will designate the far-left antifascist group Antifa as a terrorist organization, escalating his administration’s focus on political violence following the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
In a social media post, Trump labeled Antifa a “sick, dangerous radical left disaster” and vowed to push for investigations into anyone funding the movement. The White House called the move one of several actions aimed at curbing what it described as left-wing groups that fuel violence.
“Those who bankroll these dangerous groups will be held accountable,” the president said in his post.
The announcement quickly drew concern from Democrats, who warned the designation could be used as a pretext to silence dissent and opposing political viewpoints. Legal experts have also noted that Antifa is not a formal organization but rather a loosely connected movement, raising questions about how the designation could be enforced.
The decision underscores the administration’s broader response to rising political tensions in the wake of Kirk’s killing, as security and accountability remain at the forefront of national debate.
